Molecular Exploration Project - CaM Kinase IV

Autoinhibitory domain

The catalytic domain is shown in bold in all sequences

The autoinhibitory (also known as autoregulatory) domain of CaMKIV (orange highlight) is located at the C-terminal helix of our predicted model. This domain is important in regulating CaMKIV activity as it binds to the active site of CaMKIV, which leads to autoinhibition of CaMKIV. Rearrangement of the autoregulatory domain can occur following the physical association between Calcium/calmodulin complex and the calmodulin binding domain of CaMKIV, which relieves the autoinhibitory effect and leads to basal kinase activity.
