MedSIN-RUMS projects

World AIDS Week

One of the areas we are interested in at MedSIN-RUMS is reproductive health, including AIDS. As you may be aware, World AIDS Day is on December 1st, and that week MedSIN-RUMS is working in collaboration with UCL Union to put on some AIDS awareness events to help everyone have 'fun' safely!

Background

World AIDS Day emerged in 1988 to open channels of communication, to
strengthen the exchange of information and experiences, and to forge a
spirit of tolerance.

It receives the support of the World Health Authority, United Nations,
communities and individuals around the world. Each year, it is the only
international day of coordinated action against AIDS.

December 1st 1999 marks the 12th World AIDS Day. This year the theme is
"Listen, Learn & Live: World AIDS Day Campaign with Children and Young
People." Reaching out to the youth is considered by many people to be the
most promising strategy for reducing the spread of HIV worldwide.

We hope to celebrate World AIDS Day in a manner that is fun and original,
but offers stimulation and insight as well.

So what's going on?

We propose a week of events and activities for World AIDS Day, commencing on
Monday 29th November, across the whole of the UCL campus.

Numerous information stalls will be set up in all the University Unions,
where leaflets, red ribbons, condoms and other items will be dispensed.
Collection tins will be placed in university bars and shops. Student
volunteers will be collecting money for AIDS Charities throughout the week.
