  15. This is a picture of an amusement park in the background, with the fireworks and smoke in front of it so that only part of the structure of the amusement park can be recognised. The overall colour palette is red and the smoke and fireworks are yellow. There is a lot of sparkle in the image, as if it were the afterglow of a setting sun. In this work, the viewer can feel the silence that remains after the hustle and bustle, the grey flying away, and everything seems to have never existed.

  16. I made a hybrid creature based on a motorcycle’s frame that was covered by Jesmonite cast which has animal and part of vehicle shapes. And I used a methodology from clothing-making to make a fabric mould and each casted piece has a visible seam-line which looks like the creatures from part of clothing.

    Inspired by my memories of funeral floral arrangements, I employ the use of the flower motif to portray the liminal space my mother's body was in within the last 3 hours of her life. Layers of acrylic and oil paint on hessian express the complex and transitional space between life and death, the body and the spirit as well as faith and hopelessness. Vibrant hues ironically signal to the viewer that joy and faith sit amongst pain and despair, that light and rebirth sits amongst darkness and death.

  32. Floor-based sculptural installation. On the floor are two sculptures whose main feature are warm yellow plastic sandbags with a woven texture. These sandbags are installed in multiple layers and folds. The sculpture on the left has a long plank of pine wood going through the sandbags, other materials and objects emerge out of the layers of sandbags, such as geologic-looking bronze forms, sulphur crystals, pine needles, beeswax casts of the walls of Sicilian sulphur mine, and black volcanic sand. On the sculpture on the right hand side, the folds and curls of the sandbags are stronger. Emerging and peeking out of these folds are more beeswax casts of the sulphur mine walls, rivers of black volcanic sand, carob pods, a found snail shell stuffed with sulphur crystals, an iron pick axe used to mine raw sulphur, and a bronze cast of a bread, that lies on one edge of sandbag, as if it were lifting up the layers of sandbags, like turning the page of a book.
